Although there are still care instructions that must be followed to increase the life and longevity of a cactus.
Cactus plants are used for warmth and being dry. For this reason putting them in a window with full sun is optimal. The cactus may need not to water several times in a week depending on the variety and the light they get. The recommended irrigation program for cacti cultivation is once a month. It is recommended to use coarse soil that is specifically intended for a cactus rather than a generic blend. When a fertilizer is needed you should also buy a fertilizer that is only for cacti cultivation.
Cactus care and maintenance
When watering a cactus, you want to be careful of not too much water. A good tip to prevent this from happening is to place the cactus pot in a shallow dish filled with water. The plant will absorb all the water it needs through the drainage hole over a period of 1-2 hours. Complete this task and do not worry about it again for another month unless the plant is beginning to get a shriveled appearance.
When handling your cactus, be careful that it can hurt. If the pot is not large enough to hold without your hands reach near the thorny part of the pants use a folded newspaper and place it around the plant. This will protect both the hands and the plant when you move it. If you get a piece of a cactus on your finger, gently remove it with a pair of tweezers or a piece of strong tape.
